Adjusting Clipping Plane

MathieuLeclaireMathieuLeclaire Fabric for Houdini Posts: 5

I'm importing large scale assets (25 000 x 25 000 units) and the display cuts the geometry in the display. How/where can I change the value of the clipping plane of the canvas camera?

    Hi Mathieu

The inlineCamera has a setNearDistance and setFarDistance methods but they are not accessible from Canvas Standalone.
We have added ticket FE-5857 to discuss the best way of exposing the Canvas camera settings. Stay tuned!

There is a workaround for this.

You can create a CurrentDrawContext node, and then create a SetFloat64 preset which takes the param dict.

You can the set nearDistance/farDistance param to the value you desire.

See attached. Change the float values on the commented nodes to change the clipping planes.

Not ideal but at least you can do this short term

    Hi @MathieuLeclaire

In the next chagall daily build, canvas.py comes with a new rendering options widget that exposes some of the viewport parameters such as the near and far distance, allowing you to directly change these values.
