Is there any way to get strands/hair in the DCC instead of polymesh?
can you be more specific?
Hi @Chase Cartman
Fabric for Maya currently can only output Polymeshes directly, there is no curve support yet.

I have lines in Canvas and want to render them as hair, not polygon mesh.
again more details would help... what DCC, what renderer?
Let's say I want to parse FE Lines to Softimage strands, or curves.
I'm afraid there's no easy way to do it, but here's a few directions:
-Use Splice instead of Canvas as you can pass data to ICE, see http://docs.fabric-engine.com/FabricEngine/1.15.0/HTML/Splice/Softimage/ice.html
If you'r lucky it will still work with Canvas, but I doubt it.
-Use Splice as it can modify and drive Softimage curves
-Create a C++ geometry shader for the renderer you use that will directly get the Lines from Fabric.
-Use Alembic as an intermediate format, you'll need to convert le Lines object to a Point object (one per root)
and add the strand data in a Vec3 property and a UInt32 property for the index mapping. I can't remember the exact name of the properties, but you should be able to do it by exporting a few strands and inspecting the alembic.
