IFC BIM data exchange

1- Is it possible to import IFC data from some external BIM software like Revit, Archicad or from an IFC server like Opensource BIM server to generate procedural geometry for a rendering engine? Meaning by that importing geometry + parameters, change data for procedural geometry creation and rendering purposes and finally send back updated data to IFC standard file or external IFC server.

2 Alternatively Is it possible to exchange data with FLUX.IO whitch is currently working as a hub to exchange data between Rhino via Grassshoper and Revit via Dynamo?

Hi Sergio - we just made a new drop of our Unreal integration, did you get a chance to see this yet? http://fabricengine.com/fabric-for-unreal/

In terms of what's possible, we (or you) would have to wrap the IFC libraries so that Fabric could read/write to them. It appears to be an open-format so I see no reason this wouldn't be possible, but it isn't something we have attempted to do ourselves.

We haven't had any experience of Flux.IO but I would guess that if they can work with .3dm data then we can play nice with them already.

If you'd like to discuss this further with me, please drop me a PM and include your email so we can chat offline.

    Thanks,

If you are looking for an open IFC Library this one is one that we have pointed others to integrate with. http://ifcopenshell.org/

IFC support would be very handy as its very data rich and could provide valuable ways to create compelling game capabilities in Unreal.
