Downloaded the following zip files for the UE beta9 for .3dm file but not sure how to install 'canvas' (files)
Have you watched the getting started installation video?
Kraken Rigging Framework
Video was a big help! Installed Beta 9 and was able to import 3dm file (missing materials but maybe because they had VRmats). There was a message in the install to use canvas.py but the canvas.exe worked. Tried the canvas.py but was not recognized by windows/computer.
Thank you for your help.
To be able to use canvas.py you need to install a 64 bit python, as described in the documentation

We are able to bring 3dm entities in but can't package the game...Did a test file without bringing 3dm objects in but we receive warnings as follows in Output Log
LogDirectoryWatcher:Warning: Failed to begin reading directory changes for E:/_UE4v4.12.5/AExtract/Plugins/FabricForUnreal/Content/. Error: The system cannot find the file specified.
LogUObjectGlobals:Warning: Failed to find object 'Class None.'
Not sure how to resolve this?
Properly packaging a project is in the roadmap but not directly supported in the current beta version.
Thank you for update! Do you know when packaging for Windows will be supported? Sort of essential if eventually we are to purchase a license and use the Rhino-Fabric-UE4 workflow?
It seems that you are using the Fabric for Unreal beta to get .3dm files as created by Rhino into Unreal Engine. If that is all you are doing, then you don't need to install Fabric Engine itself. You only need the Fabric for Unreal plugin for Unreal Engine (the guts of that plugin leverage some Fabric magic during the conversion process). Or am I missing something?
Would like to be able to package the scene or level to windows or iphone etc...
We have packaged something up and run it on an NVIDIA Shield tablet as a proof of concept. That is not part of the current Beta. At the moment, our primary concern is with refining the workflow and functionality of the export process.
Just installed 'FabricForUnreal-4.15.1-beta20' but UE4 locks up as soon as I hit the Fabric folder at the top to try to import a Rhino file. Tried installing and uninstalling, then a 2nd install but still locks up? Any suggestions or instructions/tutorials to verify the installation procedure?
The first time you load Fabric it can take up to a minute to load all the extensions. How much time did you wait?. Did you open the output log window to check if there is an error/warning?
Probably not long enough, ...but longer than previous betas I had used...however will need to resolve the license issue? Still unsure of workflow relative to uv maps. Should uv maps be done in UE4 since Rhino uv unwrap is not as sophisticated as Maya and 3ds tools?
Rhino works with NURBS, which have implicit UV coordinates. What Fabric Engine does when importing .3dm data is to generate uv packing in the importation process for the lightmaps.
That is good to know about the Fabric Engine process with the uv's. Thank you.
