sample file tested on Maya2016 & FE2.5.
And merge processing is high cost.
When only the value of Xfo is updated, this node do not perform merge processing again and perform deformation based on the previous merge result.
I maked node that create mesh from UV.

The weight map is a very useful function for mesh deform and rig production etc, and I needed multiple maps.
So I made a multi - channel weight map.
Also regarding the function of the brush, I added mouse events that changing brush strength of the paint and blurring.
I thought it was difficult to see if the value of the weight map was small, so I added value drawing using the Box object.
The big task is to enable Undo/Redo.
I tried various investigations about it but it has not been able to work.
Continue to try.
Now I study same things too.
I have not studied the programming systematically, this answer may not be the best.
I attached sample file that connect to splice node from skinClaster's weightList node, & then get weightList values of splice.
